Corporate Profile

Perfil corporativo

Oi offers fixed and mobile, broadband, pay TV, data transmission and internet provider services, in addition to other corporate and wholesale services, including transport network and international backbone services. Oi also offers more than two million public Wi-Fi hotspots in several places, e.g., airports and shopping malls.

Oi is Brazil’s leading telecommunications service provider, with a fully integrated nationwide presence. The Company’s purpose is to explore telecommunications services and undertake other activities necessary or useful for the execution of these services, in compliance with the concessions, authorizations and permissions granted.

Oi is a switched fixed-line telephony services (STFC) concessionaire operating in Regions I and II of the General Concession Plan (PGO), which covers all Brazilian states except for São Paulo and the Federal District. The concession agreements are effective until December 31, 2025. In addition, ANATEL authorized Oi to provide Mobile Telephony Services (SMP) throughout the entire country.

In short, the Company offers a diversified range of services. However, aiming to make its offers more comprehensive and based on the strategic advantages of convergence and integration, at the end of 2011 the Company changed its way of doing business, adopting a customer segmentation approach (Residential, Personal Mobility and Business-to-Business (B2B)) instead of segmentation by product.

Based on this new approach, our customer base closed 2018 at 57.1 million, divided into:

  • 14.7 million residential RGUs, comprising wireline, broadband and pay TV;
  • 35 million customers in the personal mobility segment, 27.3 million of which prepaid users and 7.7 million post-paid users;
  • 6.7 million B2B users, divided into wireline, mobile and broadband; and
  • 0.6 million public telephones.

Fixed telephony Services

The Company‘s traditional fixed telephony business includes local and long-distance services, use of networks (interconnection) and public telephones, according to the concessions and authorizations granted by ANATEL. Oi is the largest fixed telephony operator in Brazil in terms of number of lines installed.

Oi is the country‘s main fixed telephony provider, operating at the entire national territory, except in the state of São Paulo. In 2017, the Company had 12.9 million fixed lines in operation, of which 9.2 million were in the Residential segment.

Mobile Telephony Services

Oi provides mobile telephony services throughout Brazil. At the end of 2017, our operation had 39.0 million UGRs. Our user base is divided into pre-paid and post-paid customers.

In the pre-paid segment, customers activate their mobile numbers by buying SIM cards set-up in their devices. The Company‘s pre-paid customers can add credits to their accounts through the acquisition of prepaid cards, through online transactions at the thousands of sales points available throughout Brazil, through credit card or invoices of fixed telephony from Oi. The credits have a minimum validity of 30 days and vary according to their value, pursuant to ANATEL rules. The pre-paid plans include voice and data packages that are debited from their credits. Additional packages can be purchased at any time through self-service channels.

Customers of post-paid plans pay a monthly fee and are billed monthly for the services provided during the previous month. Post-paid plans may include voice and data allowances, as well as access to content through apps such as Oi Toca Aí and Oi Bancas.

Data Transmission Services

The Company offers a variety of high-speed data transmission services. The Company‘s broadband services, which mainly use the technology ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line), are offered in Regions I and II under the "Oi Velox" brand. As of December 31, 2017, the Company had 5.7 million ADSL‘s subscribers.

Pay TV Services

Since November 2008, Oi has been providing Pay TV services. The service is available in virtually all of Brazil, except in the state of São Paulo, through satellite (DTH) and fiber optic technologies (FTTH - IPTV), which is available in some cities in the states of RJ and MG. The launching of the DTH service was carried out in July 2009 and of the IPTV service in December 2012. Oi‘s base of Pay TV ended 2017 with 1.5 million customers.

In addition, in 2015, Oi launched its Over The Top service through the Oi Play platform, which gives its Pay TV customers access to VOD (Video On Demand) content on other mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets and PCs, extending the Pay TV service beyond the household, with video content provided by the programmers according to the contracted plan.
